Joe and Rich Missed Their Calling...Fighter Pilots

So, here's the deal...I'd like to tell you everything we saw and did, I'd like to show you some pictures of the day, but...it's CLASSIFIED. Yep, that's right, we spent the day at Luke Airforce Base checking out all the cool stuff our U.S. Airforce neighbors do here in Maricopa County.

Luke is just about eight miles from Verrado and we get more than a dozen fly overs each day for training. It is one of the largest airforce bases in the world http://www.luke.af.mil/ and the only one I've ever visited. We spent about five hours on the base checking out the inside of an F-16 on the tarmac, learning all about the jets, the pilots and the top secret call names of our armed services pals at Luke. Although we weren't allowed to take pictures, it was an amazing experience that will be etched in our minds (and ears) forever. Sitting at the end of the airstrip watching F-16's take off and land, seeing the maintenance crews working on jets in the 110+ AZ sun, and getting to fly in the simulator was pretty cool, even for a girl.

We all left with a great appreciation for our men overseas and extremely proud to be Americans. Thanks, Luke!

P.S. The picture above is Rich and Joe toasting to their new careers as Airforce maintenance crews. Both are too old to go through pilot training, but they'll take what they can get.
