Some Sad News
It is a very sad day for our family. We lost one of our dear pets today. Rascal was a good cat. He was often known for being "loquacious" meaning he had quite a talkative demeanor. He loved to hunt birds, squirrels and other small animals that he found around the neighborhood. We joked that he truly had nine lives because of all the precarious situations he often found himself in. Rascal will truly be missed, he was my Dad's buddy.

Thank you for remembering Rascal. He was quite a cat... he was my friend.
The house is not the same without him. After the kids grew up and left home, the house became a very quite place. The laughter, the quibbling, the chatter, the slamming of doors was gone. After realizing that I missed all of this, Rascal stepped up to fill the silence. He "talked" to me constantly... morning, day, night, and always making sure that we heard him. He was, indeed, a very LOQUACIOUS cat. For the last year or so he was cultivating his "talk" to approach Mary and mooch food from her. It worked. I could not believe that Mary gave in to him and actually offered him a spoon of can cat food... wet food, as we called it. This was a turning point for Rascal and the beginning of a highly developed "talk" whenever I fed him his specially blended (and expensive) dry food.
That newly developed "talk" clearly meant "no, not that dry stuff, I want the stuff in the can... the Mariner's Catch, you know, the one with the tuna and whitefish."
From now on it was always a spoon in the morning mixed with his dry food, another spoon in the mid afternoon, and one at night. The rest of the time he made his way to his dish and put up with and ate the dry food... until celebration time when the "one spoon" was delivered to his dish.
After a few times he found a way to play me and Mary against each other. Again, he learned more new "talk" to approach Mary and beg (yep, he learned beg talk) for wet food. On most occassions either me or Mary had already fed him wet food... but he made us believe that the other had been negligent and had forgotten to give him his "one spoon". This was his way of inflicting his guilt trip on us.
Mary and I figured what he was up to when we discovered that the food was disappearing faster than usual. We were each feeding him his "one spoon" of wet food... actually, he was sneaking "two spoons" and loving it. We put him on the sofa and had a talk with Rascal... but, he ignored us, jumped off the sofa, and walked away to sleep. He had discovered how to manipulate us into supplying him with two spoons of the Mariner's Catch delicacy.
Rascal was growing old gracefully with us. He was regal, confident, and kept us company. I will miss Rascal. He was my friend. The house is very quiet again.
